One of the wonderful, local insurance companies we write business for, has opened the 2017 applications for Grange Insurance Association’s annual academic scholarships. Grange proudly offers these to students attending accredited institutions of higher education. They recognize and accept any school offering courses resulting in a certificate or degree toward a profession, such as community college, state or private four-year institutions, and technical institutes.
Born in 1965, the Grange Insurance Association scholarship fund began with just a few hundred dollars in rewards. The fund grows every year, with grants exceeding $30,000 today. This kind generosity from donors allows us to send more students from our communities to colleges and universities worldwide.
Scholarship funds are awarded for the fall term of the 2017 academic year and come in two forms: academic and vocational. GIA will award 22 academic and 3 vocational scholarships, each with a first prize winner receiving $2,500. Runner-ups will receive between $1,000 and $2,000 each.
In order to be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must be either a Grange Insurance policy holder or the dependent of a Grange Insurance policy holder, a Grange Insurance employee or dependent of an employee, or a previous recipient of a Grange Insurance Association scholarship. Children or legal wards of officers, directors, or agents of GIA are ineligible.
Applications must be postmarked no later than March 1st, 2017. Recipients will be notified in mid-April with their scholarship funds made available by September 2017.
The finished packet should include the following:
- a complete scholarship application
- an official, up-to-date transcript from the highest institution that the applicant has attended (high school or college)
- an essay
In your essay, please describe yourself and your family, leadership or volunteering experience, and future goals. Tell Grange about the college, university, or trade school you are attending or plan to attend, and specifically how this scholarship will help you reach your future goals.
